14th of November, 1924

Dearest Explorer,

I hope this letter reaches you before the tide turns. I am writing from the narrow desk of the Silver Bay post office, where the lamplight flickers against the window and the gulls have finally gone quiet for the evening.

Something strange happened this morning. The harbor master, Mr. Aldric Voss, pinned a notice to the town bulletin board just after sunrise — a short message about a boat called The Wren that arrived overnight from the northern coast. By noon, the notice had vanished. Not blown away by the wind. Not taken down by Mr. Voss. Simply gone.

Now, I would not trouble you with such a small thing, except that The Wren is the same vessel mentioned in last month's clue — the one connected to the missing logbook from the old lighthouse. And Mr. Voss, when I asked him about the notice, said only this:

"Some messages are not meant to stay pinned for long."

I have enclosed a clue card with a copy of the harbor grid. The grid was chalked onto the dock wall near slip number four — the very slip where The Wren was moored this morning. It is no longer there now. The boat has already gone.

I believe the grid holds a pattern. If you can solve it, you will uncover the name of the person who removed the notice — and perhaps why.

There is one more thing I should tell you.

On my way to the post office this afternoon, I passed the lighthouse at the far end of the harbor wall. The door was open — just slightly — and I could see a candle burning inside, though the lighthouse has been closed to visitors since September. I did not go in. But I did notice a small envelope wedged beneath the doormat, addressed only with a symbol: a compass rose with one arm longer than the others, pointing northeast.

That symbol has appeared before. It was on the logbook cover. It was scratched into the base of the old anchor outside the maritime museum. And now it is here, at the lighthouse door. Whoever is leaving these marks wants to be followed — but only by someone paying close enough attention.

I have included three items with this letter. Study them carefully — they are connected, and together they will reveal what you need for the next dispatch.

Exhibit A — The Harbor Grid

This grid was found chalked on the dock wall near slip number four.

I will write again next month — assuming I can find another stamp and another quiet corner. Until then, keep your clue cards safe and in order. They are beginning to tell a story of their own.
